I was having a wonderful day at Disneyland with my family and my stepbrothers’ family when it was getting dark. I was walking along at a brisk speed when a woman on an electric scooter tried to cross in front of me even though she was coming from behind me.
As she cut me off she ran over my right foot and I fell to the ground on my left knee and hand. Both my knee and hand were bleeding, the lady kept going but a nice gentleman helped me up. I didn’t think much about it, other than what a rude woman she was.
Over the next couple months my foot ached but not bad. I didn’t think much of it until I couldn’t walk very far anymore so I thought I would have a doctor check it out. Well, the x-ray wasn’t pretty and the doctor said “wow, you must have a high tolerance for pain?” I asked “why” and he said “all your metatarsal bones are broken”. I was surprised, I knew it hurt but I didn’t realize the damage the woman had done.
I ended up having foot surgery and not being able to use my foot or put any weight on it for 2-3 months and NO DRIVING. The foot scooter became my best friend. There was more damage than expected so instead of staples they had to put in a metal plate and screws.
Those of you that have had foot surgery know how painful and long the recovery process is and there’s still no guarantee that you will be able to walk normal, wear your old shoes or even wear heels again which was a hard one for me. I tried many shoes but I kept having nerve pain and I was getting frustrated because I didn’t want to wear tennis shoes forever.
One day at the beach I found a perfectly good pair of OOFOS Sandals, I looked around but didn’t see anyone on the beach or in the water so I picked up the shoes, washed them and wore them. I couldn’t believe how comfortable they were. I wore them every day for months before I order and brand new pair in a different color. These OOFOS shoes have been a Godsend because the nerve pain is gone and I can walk everywhere with them. The doctor told me I would never be able to wear a backless shoe I wear them every day, everywhere.
By the way, I also ended up needing knee surgery because of the damage caused by this woman but that’s another story.
If you have foot, knee or back pain try a pair of OOFOS. You won’t regret it and if anyone runs you down at Disneyland but sure to get their name and number. She got away with a “hit and run”.
